Always Plotting Something…

  • Red, blue, purple, and pink fineliners filling a hexagon tiling with variable densities to create horizontal, vertical, and diagonal gradients in shapes aligned to a 6x11 rectangular grid. Some blocks are left empty, some span multiple rows and columns, and some are replaced by regular polygons or circles. One wide cell includes the text alwaysplottingsomething.com filled in black, and there are small crosses in thin black lines denoting the underlying grid corners.
  • Alternative version of the piece in purple, red, and orange pen, with only rectangular areas filled with gradients. The gaps between cells is smaller, and the piece is dominated by a large red-orange area on the right, and has many short but wide cells across the five columns.

Genuary 29: grid-based graphic design.

More grid-based layout than graphic design, but it was fun to use my previous gradient code and fit it into a randomly generated and selected grid layout. However, there are too many possibilities and I had to go through quite a few generation to get a sensible version that had all the features I wanted (a cell wide enough for the text, several cells that were approximately square to replace with polygons, gutters that weren't so thin that the cells almost overlapped)...

Genuary is a month of creative prompts to encourage experimentation with generative art created with code (and, for me, drawing robots).
