Generative curves using Lindenmayer systems (L-Systems) would have been useful for the Plants prompt a few days ago. "The Algorithmic Beauty of Plants" has a good introduction and many much more complicated examples. You specify an initial word (axiom) and replacement rules (productions) to apply at every generation, and interpret the result as a series of drawing commands like "draw line", "rotate canvas", "return to a saved state".
